Horse Cartoons

Bonfires evoke amazing discussions and this past weekend … in between the Smores melting all over us … we were talking about the lack of horse cartoon characters.

Most of us remembered Quick Draw McGraw,  Gumby’s best pal Pokey and Bullseye from Toy Story.  Made us wonder why there were so few modern day horse cartoon characters.

During our search we stumbled across a list of fictional horses on Wikipedia. It brought back some great memories but still no stand alone horse cartoon characters.

Hmmm. Can’t believe Disney/Pixar hasn’t noticed this.  We did find a Walt Disney horse cartoon called  “A Cowboy Needs A Horse” from 1956.

Wish we could draw horses better than a first grader … we’d be all over this.

1600 Pound Therapist

Kissing a HorseLook out, Freud. There’s a new 1600 pound therapist in town.

That’s right, we’re talking about horses.

Horses assisting in psychotherapy is an approach that has been used for centuries and is now becoming mainstream.

Although the emotional therapeutic benefits are important, it is perhaps the physical benefits of horseback riding that most people relate to. In addition to improving strength, coordination, and balance, horseback riding can also be good for chronic back pain and arthritis sufferers. The constant rolling motion keeps the spine supple and well-lubricated. And the physical activity and emotional connection to horses often help alleviate the pain of arthritis.

All of that and fresh air to boot:)

The Soul of the Horse

Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling does not call himself a horse whisperer and is not describing what he does with horses as a method. But only his presence calms down the most traumatized horses, so who is he and what is what is he doing?

Tooting Our Own Horn

I can live for two months on a good compliment. ~Mark Twain

Thank you cards are so uncommon these days. That’s why we’re using this post to share a wonderful note that we received from one of our guests! Gotta love fan mail!!!

Letter received from – Earl K.

Hi,
I wanted to contact you and send my thanks for the great time my girlfriend and I had yesterday at your farm. A special thanks to Emily who was very nice, knowledgable, and a great guide.
I have had several people ask for feedback after telling them about the trip because they have always wanted to try horseback riding.  I’ll be telling them your place is the one to go to.  Thank you again for making the surprise birthday present for my girl a very positive experience!  Thanks again to Emily!!

Thank you so much, Ed … we really appreciate you taking the time to let us know!

Emily … you Rock!

Two Horses

Received in an email and just had to share. The author is unknown.

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it.
From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. If you stop your car, or are walking by, you’ll notice something quite unique….
Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.
This alone is amazing.
If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.
Attached to the horse’s halter is a small bell.  It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.
As you stand and watch these two friends, you’ll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray.
When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the blind friend isn’t too far behind to hear the bell.

Sometimes we are the blind horse guided by the little ringing bell of those who are placed in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way…. Good friends are like that…  You may not always see them, but you know they are always there. Hope you’ll listen for my bell and I’ll listen for yours. And remember…
Be kinder than necessary – – – Everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Happy Trails!
